Howard Jackson Bursary Recipients Announced

The Nova Scotia Volleyball Referee’s Association created the Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary, in memory of Howard Jackson a long time Volleyball Official, Coach, and Volunteer in Nova Scotia. The NSVRA members raise money for this program by donating their time and hosting a club tournament in Truro every February.

Howard passed away in December 2010. Its purpose is to promote, encourage and sponsor young volleyball officials and players who are currently attending College or University in Nova Scotia. The Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary awards two $1,000 bursaries each year, ideally to one male and one female.

Howard Jackson Memorial Bursaries are awarded based on the following:

• Volleyball Official, Player
• Financial need
• Community and volunteer involvement
• GPA of 75% or above

We award two $1000 bursaries every year, however none were awarded in 2014 so we are awarding four bursaries this year. The 2015 recipients are: Vanessa Stephens, Emma MacLean, Janell Stewart and Courtney Baker.
Vanessa is a level 1 official and played for Avon View High School in Windsor. She also played on various club teams and is currently playing for the University Of Kings College.
Emma is a level 1 official and played for Memorial High School in Sydney Mines. She also played with various club teams and is currently attending Cape Breton University.
Janell is a level 1 official and played for Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School in Yarmouth. She also played on various club teams and is currently attending Dalhousie University.

Courtney is a level 1 official and played for Bridgewater Senior High School. She also played on various club teams and is currently playing for Dalhousie University.
