  • CANADA GAMES Indoor (2007 & younger)

  • NAVY Indoor/Beach Hybrid (2010-2012).

  • Step 1 - Regional Open ID Sessions hosted across the province.
  • Step 2 - Team NS Selection Event,
    • Canada Games May 30-June 1 weekend in Halifax NS
    • ROYAL/NAVY - June 6-]8 weekend in Halifax NS

During a ~2 hour Regional ID session, athletes will participate in on-court activities (warmup, small sided games, skill activities, 5v5 or 6v6 games), as well as a short physical testing activity (measurement of height, standing reach, spike touch).

General Event Details
  • Registered athletes will be scheduled to attend one session (~2 hours in length).
  • Many locations have multiple dates, and multiple sessions per date. After registration closes, VNS will provide a more specific time to athletes/parent-guardians 4+ days prior to their session.
  • If an athlete has specific time restrictions to which session they are able to attend (Ex. weekend tournament, out of province, etc), parent/guardians should email VNS Development Director Jon Elliott those needs. VNS will try to accommodate.
  • If an athlete is unable to attend any of the in-person events, they have the option to be identified by submitting match video (VIDEO SUBMISSION Regional Open ID). Detailed instructions for this option are near the bottom of this page, below the details for the in-person events.
  • As much as possible, athletes will be scheduled in sessions with athletes of a similar age range and gender. If an athlete's personal schedule does not allow them to attend a session with the same age and gender, they may be invited to join a different session.
  • All athletes that participate in the Open Regional ID process will be notifed by Friday, May 16 with their Regional ID outcome, and whether they will continue to a Team NS Selection Event.
  • Athlete feedback will not be available from the Regional Open ID process.
  • Regional Open ID Sessions are open and observable to parent-guardians, however no seating will specifically be made available, and their presence should be approved by the attending athlete.

      • Reminder of the statement at the top of this page that if an athlete has specific time restrictions to which session they are able to attend (Ex. can only attend a Saturday session, or only available after 12pm on either day), parent/guardians should email VNS Development Director Jon Elliott those needs before March 21.
      • When submitting specific time restrictions, please provide as wide a range of availability as possible. Sharing that an athlete is only available for 1 specific tryout time will be difficult to accommodate, and may result in the athlete being denied their requested time, and having to attend a different location, submit a video application, or not tryout for Team Nova Scotia.
      • HRM ID sessions have historically hosted more than 250 athletes. VNS will create athlete groupings based on what works for the majority of athletes.
      • Athletes unable to attend an in-person ID session can register for a video submission (details below)
      • Reminder that athletes are able to attend Regional ID sessions in alternate locations
