High School Personal Development Credit - Coaching and Officiating

2025-09-10

📢Hey High School Students in Nova Scotia ➡️Level up your game—and your transcript. 📚🏐⚡️

Volleyball Nova Scotia is excited to share a brand new opportunity for Coaching and Refereeing for High School Students in Nova Scotia.

The Department of Education, in partnership with Sport Nova Scotia & the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, has developed the Sport Leadership Personal Development Credit for high school students in Nova Scotia.

This program is designed to help students build valuable leadership skills in coaching and officiating, while giving back to their communities and contributing to sport development across the province. The program is open to all Nova Scotia high school students in Grade 10 or above who are involved in coaching or officiating with a community sport club or Provincial Sport Organization that is a member of Sport Nova Scotia.

Students enrolled in the program can earn a full school credit by completing the requirements in either coaching or officiating.

Volleyball Nova Scotia can help guide students to the correct Sport-Specific Refereeing or Coaching education requirements of the program. Referees or Coaches must complete whatever the sport-specific VNS requirements are for the Refereeing or Coaching role they will be taking on.

To qualify, students must complete a total of 110 hours, which include both sport-specific education and hands-on practical experience—such as coaching practices and games or officiating matches.

If you are interested in participating or have questions about the program, please contact Mike Hudson at mike.hudson@novascotia.ca and we will provide you with the program intake form and answer any questions you may have.
