Off-Season Program Regulations

Our goal with the Off-Season regulations is to foster an environment where athletes have access to a wide variety of volleyball opportunities while upholding the integrity of our Tryout Policies and ensuring a level playing field for all clubs during team formation.

The Off-Season period begins the day after the final Indoor National Championships and continues until the start of the official Tryout Period. During this time, clubs may offer two categories of indoor programming: Open Activities and Closed Activities.

Open Activities

These are programs available to any interested participant, regardless of their previous club affiliation. Typical examples include:

  • Camps

  • Clinics

  • House leagues

  • Introductory or skill-based training

Note: For Open Activities targeting more experienced athletes, clubs may require participants to have prior club volleyball experience. Clubs may also offer early or priority registration to returning members of their club. Tryouts, evaluations, or selection processes are not permitted during Open Activities.

Closed Activities

These programs are limited to athletes who were members of the offering club during the most recent competitive season. Common examples include:

  • Skill-based training

  • Team practices

  • In-house competitions

Off-Season Competition

Clubs may choose to continue competition during the off-season, both in and out of province. To do so, the following conditions must be met:

  • Teams must consist solely of athletes who were registered with the club in the previous competitive season.

  • All participants must hold a current Competitive Membership.

  • All coaches and staff must meet Safe Sport requirements, including a valid Police Record Check and completion of Safe Sport Training.

  • Clubs must submit a request to Volleyball Nova Scotia at least two weeks prior to any out-of-province competition.
