IB Exams and Nationals Conflicts - Potential Solution

2015-01-23

POTENTIAL SOLUTION TO ALLOW IB STUDENTS TO ATTEND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

If you are an IB student and are unable to attend Volleyball Nationals due to conflicting final exams, there may be a solution.  The International IB organization does state that adjustments in final examinations are possible.  The only person that can apply for any form of examination alteration for a student is the IB Coordinator at each school.  To assist, we feel that we have developed a reasonable plan that may be acceptable to the international IB governing body.  The principal and IB coordinator at Western Canada High School in Calgary have agreed to allow IB students to write their exams at their school on the same day and time that exams for specific courses are scheduled around the world.  We don’t think that this strategy has ever been tested before.  So armed with this information, any volleyball player who is in an IB program who would not be able to attend VC Nationals can approach their school’s IB Coordinator and ask them to petition the International IB body for permission to write their IB exams scheduled during VC Nationals at Western Canada High School in Calgary.  And we are suggesting that these petitions from IB Coordinators should be sent the international body during a specific and limited time period, February 9-13, 2015 to gain traction.

Hopefully, the international body will see just how many volleyball players are impacted by the Volleyball Nationals in Canada and this approach can be repeated in future years.

That’s it, the plan is simple speaking to athlete centeredness.  Should you have any questions or need any help feel free to contact us.  And it would be helpful for any players or parents who do petition their school’s IB Coordinator for an adjustment to let us know by way of a simple e-mail to Rick Doane as below.  With that information, a statistic on just how many students are impacted can be developed for future years.
