The 2015 Ricoh Sport Awards took place on May 30th at the World Trade and Convention Centre.

Nearly 600 members of the Nova Scotia sport community gathered at the World Trade and Convention Centre to see Sport Nova Scotia present the 19th annual Ricoh Sport Awards. The prestigious sport recognition event recognized the achievements of over 200 athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors and volunteers from across the province.

The Ricoh award winners of the night for volleyball are:

Volleyball Volunteer ~ Rick Doane
Truro ~ Rick donated numerous hours helping to launch a new registration system. Rick is a member of the World League Local Organizing Committee in charge of volunteers. He also gives of his time as member of the Volleyball Nova Scotia board of directors as the Fundy Region representative and the competitions committee. Rick hosted the first Volleyball Nova Scotia Super Series and helped co-ordinate the work of volunteers at multiple venues.
 
Volleyball Corporate Sponsor ~ LifeMark
For the past three years, LifeMark has donated hundreds of hours of service at the Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial championships. They have provided taping and other services that help players prepare for competition while also serving as first responders at the event. They have been excellent partners and have always been incredibly generous with their support.
 
Volleyball Official ~ David Fairfax
Berwick ~ David is the newly elected regional officials chairperson for the Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association and Volleyball Nova Scotia. He is a Level 4 national indoor referee and a regional beach referee. He is a referee supervisor and evaluator for Volleyball Canada and was instrumental in bringing the national theory clinic to Halifax in the fall of 2014. He has also been preparing to host the national regional officials chairperson meeting in Halifax.
 
Volleyball Coach ~ Lori Welsh
Halifax ~ Lori was the head coach of the 16U girls provincial team that represented Nova Scotia at the Eastern Elites volleyball tournament in Moncton last July. Her team steadily improved throughout the training period leading up to the tournament where, under Lori’s guidance, they stormed through the competition going undefeated on their way to winning the gold medal.
 
Volleyball Team ~ Bridgewater Chill 17U Girls
The Bridgewater Chill 17U girls club team won the gold medal at the 2014 Nova Scotia championships held at the Canada Games Centre. Building on their success in Nova Scotia, the team then went on to finish second at the national championships in Edmonton in the Division 1 Tier 3 category. Their result at national championships was the best result a Nova Scotia club team was able to achieve.
 
Volleyball Female Team Athlete ~ Courtney Baker
Bridgewater ~ Courtney was a member of the provincial team that represented Nova Scotia at the National Team Challenge Cup in Winnipeg. Her club team, the Bridgewater Chill, won the provincial title and went on to become the highest finishing Nova Scotian team at nationals. Courtney’s play was a big part of her club’s success and Volleyball Canada named her as one of the top-10 athletes in her age category.
 
Volleyball Male Team Athlete ~ Adam Sandeson
Truro ~ Adam was a member of the provincial team which represented Nova Scotia at the 2014 National Team Challenge Cup in Gatineau, Que. He was an important contributor on the court while also providing leadership to the team as the captain. Adam is also a standout member of the Dalhousie Tigers team.
