Volleyball Nova Scotia is launching a concussion awareness campaign called, “My Focus”.
The purpose of My Focus is to advance the conversation of proper concussion treatment and to emphasize the importance of caution when dealing with this traumatic brain injury.
We hope to advance this important conversation by sharing the stories and experiences of those who have dealt with concussions in the sport of volleyball and athletics in general.
Over the course of the next 7 days, and beyond, we hope the volleyball and athletic community in Nova Scotia will participate by sharing their focus, using the hashtag, #MyFocus. We would like you to share your focus for how you’ll help ensure that a player who’s suffered a concussion will not be put at risk by “playing through it” or “Toughening up”.
This applies to players, coaches and parents. We hope to hear from everyone. Please share your #MyFocus on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and tag Volleyball Nova Scotia and use the hashtag and we’ll share with the community.
We will also be sharing the story of an athlete, parent or coach each day over the coming week who has dealt with a concussion. We believe these stories will shed further light on the life changing reality of suffering a concussion, and even sometimes not dealing with it properly.
We have been fortunate to receive tremendous feedback from several players and parents who were very willing to share their stories. We appreciate greatly the time they took to share their experiences with us and look forward to you learning their stories!
