Novice referee is under age 16 or university/college athlete trained for their specific tournaments only – A Referee Supervisor must be onsite when using Novice referees or trained university/college athletes at events.

Volleyball Nova Scotia (VNS) is committed to fair and consistent refereeing at all sanctioned tournaments. To manage costs while maintaining high standards, the referee assigner will try to coordinate travel to reduce expenses. For the 16U, 17U, and 18U age categories, where two referees per court are required, the following policy will apply:

1. Standard Requirement:
   • All 16U, 17U and 18U tournament are required to have two referees per court.
2. Exemption and Approval Process:
   • If the out of region travel cost for providing a second referee per court is more than $150, the Provincial Assignor will first ask the tournament host for approval before assigning the second referee. The Assignor will also provide an estimate of the travel costs at that time.

Nova Scotia School Volleyball

Senior High - 3/5 $45.00 / Official ($60 if only 1 official) - no mileage charges in Metro. 2/3 $25.00 / Official ($35 if only 1 official).
Junior High - 3/5 $35.00 / Official (only 1 official is assigned). 2/3 $25.00 / Official (only 1 official is assigned).
**Each additional set played after the match has been decided will be $7.50/official/set.
