Team Atlantic Head Coaches Announced

2019-03-29

Volleyball Nova Scotia, Volleyball New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association and Volleyball Prince Edward Island are proud to announce that Nathan Wareham (Corner Brook, NL) and Angus Rhuland (Halifax, NS) will represent all 4 Atlantic Provinces as the Head Coaches for the 2019 Canada Cup Team Atlantic Women’s and Men’s programs, respectively.

Nathan, a certified NCCP Performance coach, has an extensive coaching resume. He was involved with both 2013 and 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador Indoor Canada Games Female teams; first as an assistant coach before taking on the head coach position. Nathan is no stranger to the operation of provincial team programming as he has been the convenor of the NLVA Provincial Team Program for the past 4 teams. In this role, he was responsible for the planning and implementation of Provincial Team identification and selection process. Throughout these years he was also a regional and provincial team coach. Nathan gained valuable experience on the national stage through his appointment as an assistant coach with the Canadian Junior National Team (Female) in 2012.  Finally, he remains actively coaching various high school, junior high, club and college programs and camps.

" I am thrilled to be offered this opportunity. This will be a challenging new experience and I look forward to working with all the Atlantic Provinces and coaches so that this experience will be one the athletes never forget. The Team Atlantic Program has had success on the male side and expanding this program to include a female team is huge for the development of coaches and athletes as they transition to the High Performance Level. What makes it even more exciting is that Halifax will host the Canada Cup this year, and we now have a platform to showcase High Performance Volleyball in Atlantic Canada. I look forward getting started and feel extremely privileged and humbled to have this opportunity." ~Nathan Wareham

Angus is returning for his second year with the Team Atlantic Male program, this time, taking on the head coach position. He was invaluable to the program’s success and 5th place finish at the Canada Cup competition last summer, and we are confident he will continue to drive the program in a positive direction. Angus, a trained NCCP Advanced Development Coach, brings a technical background gained by competing at the University level. He has acquired experience through his involvement with a variety of provincial, high school and club programs. Angus is currently the Head Coach of the 18U Southside Kingsmen, a club that he also founded. He was an integral part of the 2018-19 Volleyball Canada REP program in Nova Scotia, which enabled athletes to receive individual volleyball skills training consistent with the technical and tactical instruction that Team Canada athletes receive.

“I would like to thank everyone involved for the opportunity to coach the top level volleyball players in the region. I think this is a great opportunity for me as a coach to work with the best athletes and have a chance to be mentored by a great support system. The Team Atlantic program is the top in our region and I am excited and grateful to work with these athletes. I will prepare them to go to the Canada Cup to perform and succeed at the top level in Canada. I would like to thank all of the people who supported me and have been involved with my journey as a coach! It’s time to go to work boys and thank you again for this opportunity Volleyball Nova Scotia, Volleyball PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association and Volleyball New Brunswick!” ~Angus Rhuland

All 4 Atlantic Volleyball Associations are thrilled about the growth of the Team Atlantic to include both Male and Female programs and look forward to seeing these programs succeed under Angus and Nathan’s leadership.
