Volleyball Nova Scotia is excited to announce Alex Barrett (Halifax, NS) as the Head Coach for the 2019 Team Nova Scotia Female 16U Canada Cup program.Volleyball Nova Scotia is excited to announce Alex Barrett (Halifax, NS) as the Head Coach for the 2019 Team Nova Scotia Female 16U Canada Cup program.
Barrett has an extensive playing and coaching background. As an athlete, Barrett represented Newfoundland and Labrador at multiple regional and national competitions, including the 2009 Canada Games in Charlottetown, PEI. As a USport athlete, he was a five-year member of the Memorial University Seahawks, being named an Academic All-Canadian each season, and ultimately being named to the Memorial University of Newfoundland Athletic Honour Society.
As a coach, Barret has been involved with the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association Provincial Team Program for multiple years, leading teams at the Eastern Elites Championships. He has also been a Head Coach at the USport level, leading the MUN Seahawks men’s program for a year. After moving to Nova Scotia, Barrett has coached both male and female club volleyball, most recently leading two successive 18U female programs to Nova Scotia Championships
“I'm absolutely thrilled to get the opportunity to be involved with such a high caliber group of athletes,” Barrett said. “I'm excited about the program structure and can't wait to train at an elite level with this group which is bursting with potential. Looking forward to battling against the best of the best!”
Barrett, along with this group of top 16U female athletes, will represent Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canada Cup. The tournament will be hosted at Dalhousie University in Halifax from July 18-21.
