Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary Winners Announced!!

2022-06-25

We are pleased to announce Reese MacDonald and Josh Aucoin as the winners of the 2022 Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary!

Volleyball Nova Scotia's Referee Committee created the Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary in memory of Howard Jackson, a long-time Volleyball Referee, Coach, and Volunteer who passed away suddenly in December 2010. Its purpose is to promote and encourage young volleyball referees and players who are currently pursuing post-secondary education in Nova Scotia.

Reese started playing volleyball when she was 12 and the volleyball community has always been a huge part of her life. She still enjoys playing, but has recently taken on a coaching role with the Bedford Blizzard as well as completed her referee training. Reese graduated from Citadel High School and plans to finish her degree in Child and Youth Studies at Mount St Vincent before continuing on to get her Masters in Social Work. “Over the years my coaches, referees, and teammates have pushed me to work hard in volleyball. I am so proud to receive this scholarship and very thankful to VNS for the honour”. ~ Reese MacDonald

Josh began playing volleyball in grade six playing for the Ecole de Sommet Junior High team. He would go on to win several Provincial Championships, earning All Star and MVP awards along the way. He's featured on a number of Team NS rosters and now plays for the Université Sainte-Anne. “I am deeply honoured to have been awarded the Howard Jackson memorial bursary. My time playing with Volleyball Nova Scotia has meant so much to me and given me memories that I will remember forever. I am very appreciative of the constant support that this organization has given me over the years and was thrilled to learn of my selection for this honor.” ~ Josh Aucoin

Congratulations to both Reese MacDonald and Josh Aucoin!
